Ask Pastor Bill a Question

Q. Was God required to send His Son to die to atone for our sins, or could He have chosen a different plan to redeem mankind?

A. In a sense, God is not "required" to do or not do anything. His holiness guarantees that all He is and everything He does is right. As Sovereign Ruler of everything, and without beginning or ending, all options are His to determine and fulfill.

God did announce a plan, however, to atone for our sin. It is consistent with His character to finish that plan. Genesis 3:15 gives the preview to that plan, and much of the Bible builds on this announcement. It culminates when Jesus cried out from the cross, "It is finished" and then died, fulfilling the promise of redemption from sin and victory over Satan.

Could He have chosen a different plan to redeem mankind? I believe He could have chosen any plan He desired, but I have no idea what other options He might have considered.

I hope this helps. Please write again.
