ISSUE NO. 3
We always thank God for all of you,
mentioning you in our prayers. (1 Thess. 1:2)
Welcome Center Update
You’ll recall our discussions earlier in the year relative to expanding the lower lobby of our church building by just over 1,000 square feet. The “Welcome Center Committee” is awaiting a final set of plans and latest cost estimate for the proposed Welcome Center. These plans are also needed to finalize review by the city and the county and to obtain our permit to build. Due to city timelines, our plans must be reviewed in November, and consequently, this will push the start of our building project into 2007. Because of this, we will likely wait until our severe East County winter weather passes before proceeding with the construction phase. Once final plans are obtained and approved by the committee, they will display these for our collective viewing. We’re excited about the refinements the committee is recommending, as they are sure to enhance the comfort and usability of this space. We’re also excited that it appears the cost estimate will come in under our initial cost projections, but we will know more about this soon. Stay tuned for further updates in the coming weeks.
Spring Electives for Adult Ministries
Similar to 2006, Adult Ministries has identified its plans to offer four Adult Sunday School electives for the month of March 2007. These will include a class on a book of the Bible (book to be determined), a class on the forms of evangelism, a study on our key Bible doctrines, and a class to support us in building and sustaining strong marriages. In the next couple months, Adult Ministries will assign teachers and identify curriculum, and then in early 2007 will begin to publicize final details and timelines for these electives. We’re looking forward to offering a valuable opportunity to increase your Bible knowledge and to enhance your spiritual walk in these key aspects of Christian living.
Photo Directory
We are quite pleased with the first internal production of our WVBC picture directory. This will give each of us the opportunity to put names to the faces we so often see at church events but are too embarrassed or self-conscious to approach. We are hopeful that the directory will facilitate more open communication and a willingness to get to know others that you don’t already frequently interact with.
MUCH thanks to Steve and Mary Bach for donating many hours, their expertise, their patience, and their encouraging smiles throughout the process of obtaining our pictures for this directory. Also, MUCH thanks to Carolyn Willson and Karen Jones for putting all this material together and preparing the notebooks. This was a considerable project, but the ongoing maintenance will be much easier, and the internal production will enable us to maintain photo updates on at least an annual basis.
If you haven’t yet obtained a directory, please stop by the church office to pick one up! And if you didn’t get your picture in with this edition, let us know and we will arrange to have you photographed for the next update.
2007 Budget
The process of completing our 2007 Budget is well underway. All ministry teams have met to determine budgetary needs for 2007 and have submitted their initial budget proposals to their respective Elders and to the Finance team. The teams have time to submit modifications in the coming weeks before all budgets are compiled into a collective budget proposal for Elder Board review late in the year.
New Elders for 2007
Three new Elders will be nominated for a church-wide vote at our November Family Forum on November 19. John Jackson, Bob Lilly and Craig Crandall have completed their three-year terms as Elders and will be replaced for 2007. WVBC members should make plans to attend the November Family Forum and to participate in a business meeting that evening to vote on our new Elders for 2007. We look forward to seeing you there!
